Our Mission Statement

deLIVER a cure for Fibrolamellar Heapacellular Carcinoma (aka deLIVER a cure) is a non-profit charitable organization established to raise monies for cancer research related to potential treatments for this disease. The foundation will not be conducting any medical programs of its own. It will be giving funds to organizations conducting promising and relevant research. Supported research programs must have relevant potential benefits for patients with the Fibrolamellar variant however, it is hoped that this same research benefits those with other cancers as well.

Fibromalellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma is a rare variant of liver cancer that most often occurs in individuals between the ages of 15 and 25 years of age. The worldwide incidence is approximately 200 cases and there is no known successful treatment other than surgical resection of the liver. There are not enough patients with this disease to conduct clinical trials. Additionally, these patients are not admitted to clinical trials for traditional liver cancer because this disease does not manifest elevated Alpha Feta protein levels as found in all other types of liver cancer and thus is required as a qualifier by the National Cancer Institute which regulates most clinical trials in this country. Because there have been no clinical trials on these patients, there is no recognized form of chemotherapy or radiation treatment recognized by the FDA.

An example of research that may be contributed to is the work of research oncologists at The University of Pennsylvania. They are testing antiogenesis drugs individually and in combination with other drugs for the treatment not only of Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular carcinoma but of many other more common types of cancer such as colorectal, lung, pancreatic etc…

deLiver a cure intends to raise funds by means of contributions from individuals, matching corporate funds and fundraising functions such as dinners, golf outings, selling Foundation cancer bracelets and charity auctions. These fundraising events will be run by the Board members and may occur in various locations within the United States. In addition, proceeds from events sponsored and run by other organizations such as school clubs, sororities, fraternities, church groups and civic organizations will be accepted. A website is being established which hopefully will result in donations given. If government or foundation grants are found that would benefit the work of this Foundation, applications will be made.

All funds raised, with the exception of direct expenses such as postage, printing costs, cost of cancer bracelets etc..., will be directed to research. No meals, entertainment or travel expenses will be paid to any member of the Board of Trustees. The foundation hereby attests that no amounts raised by the Foundation will be used for the benefit of any member of the Foundation or any family member of a member of the Foundation. In addition, the Foundation will not accept any donation in a manner which would entitle or permit the donor to direct the use of such donation or otherwise to benefit directly or indirectly from the activities of the Foundation
