Hi Jodi, I may have already told you about our Amy's treatment. When she was diagnosed in July 2007, the 15 cm tumor was crushing her stomach and had already attached itself to 2 lymph nodes which were quite enlarged, her pancreas, aortic trunk, and esophagus. She had liver resection 17 days after her diagnosis and the surgeon removed 1/4 of her liver only to allow her to eat. Six weeks later, Mayo Clinic put her on Nexavar for one month only to find out the cancer had progressed significantly during that one month time frame. She was then put on the combination Avastin, Gemzar and Oxiliplatin by our oncologist in St. Paul, MN which backed the cancer off for about 6 months. That combination quit working and she tried Tarceva (a bio chemo drug similar to Nexavar) for almost one month with the cancer progressing and metastisizing. She then was prescribed Doxil with Avastin and the cancer continued to progess until she was too frail to try anything else. She passed away just 17 days ago. I totally agree with Susie. I really believe success of a specific treatment has to do with the progression of the disease at the time of diagnosis. Amy was already Stage IV when she was diagnosed. One thing I have noticed on this site is the wide range of treatments with such a variance of success rates on the same kind of cancer.
Theresa
