Hi Jodi, Sorry to hear that your MRI was not clear, your right i think it is difficult to tell if the nexavar is working or not.
I thought i would just let you know the treatment that Jess had, although the disease kept coming back, i think that in some cases the treatments may work.
Jess was re-diagnosed 15 months after she had first had the disease, they said it had come back in her lungs and also a lymph node by the liver, but not in the liver. They decided to give her a combination of the following drugs; cisplatin and doxorubicin, she was then scanned after 2 lots of these drugs (given IV). The scan results showed that her lungs were clear but the node by the liver was still there. They then operated and gave her 3 lots of the same chemo.
She was then scanned again and it has come back in the node by the liver, in the pelvis and also on the diagphram, but not in the lungs. The link below will give you info on these drugs, Jessica's consultant said it does wrk in some cases but not all. http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/type/liver-cancer/treatment/chemotherapy-for-liver-cancer
Following the above scan, Jess have surgery to remove all the tumours again. The following month she started an oral chemo called cyclophosphamide, she took this for around 6 months and had one clear scan during this time.
Finally, she started the drug nexavar.
Sorry i can't give you a drug that really seemed to make a difference, but i do hope that this info helps in some way.
Not sure if you know but we have set up a fund here in memory of Jess, it is at our local cancer research centre. I will email the consultants their to so if there are any new drugs that seem to be working with this type of cancer, they did say to me at our last meeting that they would be trialing new drugs for liver cancer, will see what i can find out and let you know.
Sending you and all the others prayers and positive thoughts.
Lisa
