Beth: I am so sorry--10 years old is so young but the good news is that there doesn't seem to be extensive metastic disease. My son had 2 liver resections and had 3 other surgeries removing metastic tumors before Nexavar was available. He began Nexavar approximately 2 months after the last surgery and has been on a dose of 200mg (100mg twice per day). He has been cancer free since August 2006. Nexavar seems to work best (from my observations on this site)when there is little observable cancer cells at the onset of starting Nexavar. Many doctors try putting the patients on 800mg per day because the initial trials used that protacol. We started my son at 400mg and that was clearly too high of a dose, so we lowered it. His doctor has been involved with Nexavar since the earliest clinical trials on kidney cancer patients and believes that if their are side effect symtoms at a lower dose, it's doing it's job. This has held true for my son so far. He goes on a 3 day drug holiday every month which seems to keep the side affects tolerable. He has another CT scan tomorrow so I will let you know. Where is he being treated? I will keep your son and family in my prayers!!!! Keep strong!!!! Susie
