Allison: Before each of Ben's 6 surgeries, he has been warned that hernias could occur at a later time. I think it's a pretty common occurance. I can't answer your other questions but I can imagine your doctor can. I hope the remedy, is not too bad. I know my father has had several hernia operations, unrelated to surgery and his recouperation was complete. Susie
