Audrey, First of all, I commend you on searching for alternative treatments, or rather everything that could be a help in your husband's fight. It can be exhausting to look for treatments, but you really have to stay on top of research in order to ask good questions with your oncologists. It's good to look at your husband's disease from several viewpoints, not just how do we kill those tumors...but how can we help his body be the healthiest possible to fight the cancer and stay strong. So look at every aspect of his life, it ALL affects his organism's internal mechanisms. Emotional support....getting exercise....eating antioxidant rich foods and plenty of calories.....drinking lots of water.....taking a multivitamin.....taking milk thistle for liver health/regeneration.....using his mind/working/studying.....finding the right dose of Nexavar to balance the side-effects and quality of life, etc. Also, it is important that his body is free of barriers, anything that stops the internal flow of the body in any of the systems, like cramped muscles, poor posture, infections, and obviously tumors. So try anything that keeps his body moving and feeling good, each person may have a different response, but these all have similar theories: yoga, stretching, chiropractics, osteopathic manipulation, massage, physical therapy, etc. About the radiation, how much did they actually treat the tumors? My husband was treated at the Univ. of Michigan under some of the most aggressive radiation protocols. It decreased the size of tumors and some did go away. One tumor popped up that what not caught on his scan until months later and happened to grow much faster than anything before, it was in his pelvic cavity, and ultimately eroded through nearby arteries and killed him. Up until this point his oncologists were treating every little tumor that came in the liver and lungs because they were catching them when they were less than 1cm still. I would still push radiation. Yes there is a limit for lifetime doses but you can't be sure that your husband will actually live that long to see the damaging effects of high doses years down the road or secondary cancers. Right now, those tumors just need to be dealt with the most aggressive way possible. Are they both in the liver? How is your husband feeling? Audrey, I hope I was of some help, truly. Let me know if you have any questions.
