Hi,ive just come across this website whilst googling for information.
I found a lump in my abdomen in february of this year after having a ct scan,ultrasound and mri i was diagnosed with focal nodular hyperplasia a benign liver tumor.The consultant said to go away and research it and the decision was mine whether to remove it. so i went and researched it and went back to see him the next week where i told him i would like to have it removed.This was back in April as i wasnt really having any symptoms we decided that i would wait a while for the surgery as i wanted my children to have a nice summer holiday and to be back in school which as a single parent made child care easier.My op was booked for the begining of september (at this point i almost changed my mind about having it done)every thing went ok was in surgery for 6 hours had the whole left portion and a small amout of the right removed. stayed in hospital for 6 days came home for 5 days and was rushed back in with a bile leak.I had a drain fitted and came home.So far all was going ok.Had an appointment with the consultant for 5 weeks after the op this was bought forward by a week which at the time i thought it was to do with having a drain fitted.I walked in to see him he asked me how i was doing and how was the drain was it still draining etc etc.He then told me that i hadnt had fnh that the tumor was cancerous. After the op i knew the tumor would go to be biopsied but because i had a 2nd opnion i was sure that it was fnh and the thought never crossed my mind that it wouldnt be.He said that they had managed to get it all but i had to go see an ocologist. I went to see him who siad that as they had got it all i wouldnt need any chemo and i would be scanned every 6 months. I went away very happy and thought i was very lucky.I had the drain removed 6 weeks after it was put in,it was obviously too soon as within a few days i was ill again and had to have a new drain fitted.This fell out after a week and within a couple of days i felt unwell again.I went back into hospital last tuesday where they were going to put another drain in as my stomach was sore and swollen again(same signs as bile leak)when they did the ultrasound they said the bile leak had stopped but they wanted me to have a CT scan.I had this done on tuesday and am now waiting on the results.The Dr told me it would be rare for it to have come back so soon but now im worried that it has.Im going to call him tomorrow to see if the results are back and then i guess i will have to decide what to do.Im glad i came across this website because there doesnt seem to be much information on this type of liver cancer.
